 Chambrelan RA9 – Sneak Preview

RA9R - The Latest Heavy Duty Slide Designed and Manufactured by Chambrelan

Although not available just yet, we couldn’t help but give you a sneak preview of our latest heavy duty slide, the RA9R, designed to sit between the RA7R and the E1700.

Firstly, just to whet your whistle, the RA9R is a nested 3 beam heavy duty steel slide, with 100% extension and is reinforced by a series of steel ball bearings that stud the length of the slide, adding more strength and rigidity.  Like we said this slide is not available yet, but we’re expecting some seriously high load capacities per pair.

Comparing prices at a metre closed length with, say, an RA7R which has a load capacity of 230 kilos per pair and costs £124 per slide and Chambrelan’s E1700, with it’s huge load capacity of 430 kilos per pair which costs £230 per slide, the RA9R at 1000mm will be priced at only £167 per slide.

The beauty of the RA9R is that it sits between these two products and because it uses the same fixing holes at the RA7R customers who wish to upgrade their vehicle’s load capacity, without re-configuring the existing layout, only need minor reworking to make it compatible.

The other benefits are that the slide’s width is 28mm, whereas the E1700 is 32mm, making fitting easier and the weight of the slide lighter.

As with all our steel slides, the new RA9R is zinc plated and comes in lengths from 250mm up to 2000mm.

Multidrive Australia Choose Chambrelan UK

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Multidrive, Australia’s leading manufacturer of multi-drive vehicles has just announced a working collaboration with Integrated Equipment, sole distributor of Chambrelan Heavy Duty Sliding Systems in Australia and New Zealand.  The recent announcement comes in light of Multidrive winning a recent vehicle order from Rio Tinto, one of the largest mining companies in the world. The vehicles were commissioned to carry out rail maintenance on a 400 Kilometre line in one of the most extreme desert climates in the world, namely the Pilbara region of North Western Australia.

Expected to operate for extensive periods, the vehicles will need to carry essential maintenance and support equipment, working from project to project along the hundreds of mile of line.  Gary Walsh, business development manager at Multidrive gave us his thoughts on the project.  “Every part of the Rio Tinto’s vehicle needs to be made of the best quality materials and we quickly realised that a very strong sliding system was going to be needed and one that was easy to install and easy to maintain.”

Using a beefed up Land Cruiser chassis, the MDT 5750kg GVM Model with 2500kg load capacity, boasts another drive axle and uses a torque management power divider, meaning it can tackle the roughest and hardest terrain without any wind-ups or no spin up of axles, even when carrying a load of 2.5 tons.  This system doesn’t require any operator input and is simple to maintain and has no special lubricants.

“Working with Bruce Elliott at Integrated we decided to use heavy duty sliding on both the vehicle itself, to maximise storage and also the bespoke trailer, which works as an excellent addition to any Multidrive vehicle,”  adds Garry.

These specialised lightweight custom built trailers are mostly used by the emergency services, power companies, logistics and municipal companies, and are also used extensively in a support role, for command and control scenarios.  Tailor made, these trailers are a dual axle trailer, and are packed with tool boards and storage and compartments, held in place by Chambrelan heavy-duty slides.

With Integrated Equipment as a partner there’s been a huge surge of interest and a greater awareness of Chambrelan products in the Australian market, with more and more vehicle builders and manufacturers prototyping Chambrelan heavy duty sliding systems on their applications.

Chambrelan’s New Slam Lock Completes Draw Offer

Another new product from Chambrelan, the Slam Lock, is to be launched this month in line with a number of high profile product developments being released in the first quarter of this year.  This latest product development aims at delivering an entire draw solution to clients, by finally being able to offer the Heavy Duty slides, the Slide and Tilt and now the Slam Lock all from one manufacturer and supplier.  To see a short clip of the new slam lock, click here.

Jeremy Binnington, Director of Chambrelan UK, discusses the move:  “Our core product range has always and will always be heavy duty sliding systems, but after listening to our customers we realised that demand existed for an alternative bundle of draw and vehicle stowage components.”

The Slam Lock, which has been designed specifically to topple the current market leader by offering a more user friendly assembly, that doesn’t require the drilling of holes or countersinking by hand, but does in fact ‘clip’ together neatly and quickly without compromising on the functionality of the product.

“In terms of functionality this Slam Lock delivers the same high standard of locking security as existing products, the only difference being that the assembly of the locks system is now simplicity itself, saving time and money on a busy shop floor.” confirms Jeremy.

Available in two colours, black and yellow, the slam lock mechanism integrates perfectly with Chambrelan’s telescopic slides and our new Slide and Tilt System.  The locking bars and springs are produced from stainless steel, whilst other injection moulded components are both highly durable and resistant to corrosion, meaning a longer life span.

The slam lock offered by Chambrelan UK is also interchangeable with current Slam Locks on the market and will be available from stock in the next few weeks.

Chambrelan Announces Ambulance Fleet Service Agreement

Chambrelan UKare delighted to announce a key distribution deal with Ambulance Fleetcare Services that will secure Chambrelan’s position as the leading supplier of telescopic sliding systems and heavy duty slides in both the Fire and now Ambulance markets.

“Having a distributor like A.F.S. is important to us as it highlights the recognition by an increasing number businesses as to the structural advantages gained by using Chambrelan products in vehicle design,” stated Jeremy Binnington, Head of Chambrelan UK.

A.F.S’s reputation for delivering excellent after sales support to customers and manufacturers has been achieved by creating a system of checks and balances that analyse the needs of fleet managers throughout the year.  Thanks to this A.F.S has become the key point of contact for many customers and manufactures dealing with the challenge of keeping essential vehicles on the run and on the road.

James Gooder, Director of A.F.S, shares his thoughts on how customers are benefiting from their fast and extensive service:  “Analysing the customers’ needs means we can pre-empt demand for spares and parts.  By working with clients, we prepare and plan for their needs throughout their fleet’s operational year.”

By judging Fleet Manager’s needs A.F.S ensures the right stock is available, meaning customers don’t need to carry the stock themselves, which makes tight budgets more manageable. In this respect A.F.S has been very proactive in creating a niche for itself by securing key distribution deals with manufacturers that guarantee delivery of essential items to Fleet Managers.  Their most recent distribution agreement has been with Chambrelan UK, the manufacturers of heavy-duty slides and sliding systems.  As the dominant European manufacturer of heavy duty slides Chambrelan are used across a number of different applications, from stowage solutions, to battery boxes and various safety doors and platforms, and is the type of big brand name attracted by A.F.S’s approach to after market fleet care.

“Securing a distributor like Chambrelan is essential for us to be able to offer the scope and range the service needs in maintaining its fleets,” confirms James.  “Apart from the quality of their slides and sliding systems, as manufacturers Chambrelan are in a unique position to be able to turn round orders in a very short time, which means both ourselves and clients can carry less stock items, at the same time being able to deliver products with a very short time.”

New Product Developments set for 2011

New Product Developments set for 2011

Chambrelan 2011: New Year, New Products, New Catalogue

Chambrelan are hitting the ground running with today’s announcement that over the coming months the specialist manufacturer of heavy duty slides and sliding systems are preparing to launch some major new improvements on select ranges in the first quarter, and a number of new product launches in the second quarter of the year.  To inform you of our latest range we have created a new up to date technical catalogue, which can be downloaded as a pdf or ordered by following this link: www.chambrelan.com/catalog.  The new catalogue covers many of the new products, but as we go forward into 2011, the facts and benefits of these product developments will be previewed and discussed in our newsletter over the coming months.

“In terms of product development,” comments Jeremy Binnington, Director of Chambrelan UK, we have been exceptionally proactive in exploring how we can improve on existing products, whilst looking at areas of our range which we believe we can add to.”

Indeed, with the launch of the new Slide and Tilt System, which was showcased at the Emergency Services Show, at the end of 2010, Chambrelan’s engineers and designers are keen to maintain the company’s commitment to constantly improve the overall quality and operation of the slides.

“All I can say at this stage,” reports Jeremy, “is that we aim to improve on existing models by developing a synchronizational mechanism, which will benefit users by its smoother extension, lower operating forces and a reduction in ball cage migration.  In addition as we enter the second quarter we will be announcing the launch of a number of new products, which are still very much in the development stage, but which we should be receiving the prototypes any day now.”

In terms of commitment, Chambrelan have invested heavily in expanding its manufacturing operation, to keep up with demand from emerging markets in the US and Australasia, this investment, both in terms of time, money and personnel, has meant Chambrelan are able to respond to the growing needs of industry and automotive clients in a far more responsive way than other manufacturers of heavy duty sliding systems.

“We’re seeing emerging markets demanding more and more out of our slide.  In addition we’re receiving more orders from Military applications and medical applications, both of which require stainless steel slides, for their strength and corrosive endurance and since many of these applications test our heavy duty slides to the limits we are constantly looking at new ways we can meet the testing conditions they find themselves in.”

Chambrelan Hails Slide & Tilt Launch A Success at ESS 2010

After two days of pressing the flesh at this years ESS 2010, we can report that Chambrelan’s new product, the New Slide & Tilt System, was greeted with critical success by both existing users of the current model, as well a range of new prospects, who see the benefits of using a single supplier to deliver two products.  The system, which boasts a number of upgrades, promised visitors a newly developed product working on the tried and tested mechanism that operate drop down draws and tilting stowage trays currently being used across a range of applications and used every day by front line firefighters.

“There’s a lot that’s different with the new prototypes, with key modifications and updates improving a number of areas,” confirms Jeremy Binnington Director of Chambrelan UK.  “Obviously over the years we’ve taken a lot on board from vehicle builders and engineers and we’ve tried to respond to their input by creating something that works for them, but for us the next step will be introducing clients to the product and hearing their feedback.”

Launching a new product like the slide and tilt system is no mean feat; it’s not just a question of prototyping an initial design it’s about making a commitment to collaborate with end users and this is why the research and development side of the project has been so important.

By making the slide and tilt system available in aluminium, which makes the slide and tilt a much lighter option than it’s counterparts, Chambrelan has broken the mould and answered the need of vehicle builders and engineers, who have long desired a lighter system in their vehicles.  In addition Chambrelan have modified the G53 carrier and E53 rail, which have been manufactured by Chambrelan for over eight years and are available directly from Chambrelan as spares and parts for systems that uitilse the original steel slide and tilt mechanism.  In this way Chambrelan is able to help keep costs down, whilst supporting new vehicle builds

The new system has been designed to be totally interchangeable, from a spares and repairs perspective, across all major vehicle builders that utilised the original steel slide and tilt mechanism.  For example carriers can be replaced on to original rails or steel slides can be replaced with aluminium, by using the same space envelope and positioning as existing models.

“The show allowed us to catch up with old friends and potentially meet new ones, as well as gauge feedback about the new product,” adds Jeremy.

Chambrelan are taking orders for the Slide and Tilt now, but delivery of the new system is expected to be early in the New Year.  For more information visit us at www.chambrelan.com or call our sales team directly on 01746 783 972.

Slide and Tilt by Chambrelan

Chambrelan's New Slide & Tilt

Chambrelan:  ESS 2010 Sneak Preview

Chambrelan UK will be exhibiting their range of heavy-duty slides and linear rails, for the first time, at the ESS show this year.  In addition to presenting Chambrelan’s most popular slides, namely the RA5 and RA7, Chambrelan will also be showcasing their latest product, the new Slide & Tilt system, which will be exclusively showcased at the event on stand, 440.

Chambrelan’s new version of the Slide and Tilt, a design upgrade of the tried and tested mechanism that operates draws and tilt down stowage strays being used across a range of vehicles and used every day by front line fire fighters.

“Chambrelan’s new Slide and Tilt system is the natural step for us,” confirms Jeremy Binnington, Director of Chambrelan UK.  “After all we’ve been manufacturing two key components of the existing slide and tilt system for years, which is to say the G53 carrier and the E53 rail.”

Without giving too much away before next month’s Newsletter, we can say the Slide & Tilt will be available in Aluminium.  The design changes that have their origins in suggestions and ideas received through working closely with vehicle builders. “By working closely with vehicle builders, we have been able to come up with some very interesting enhancements, which improve on the old design,” adds Jeremy.

Chambrelan have projected that delivery of the new system will commence at the beginning of the new year, although orders can be taken as of now and spares of the G53 carries and the E53 rail are currently available from Chambrelan.

“We believe that extending our product range to include a slide and tilt system enables vehicle builders and fleet managers to continue to specify and use industry proven products from a single source of supply, without having to make a compromise on quality and proven brand performance,” clarifies Jeremy.  “We believe being able to provide both products will give us a wider appeal with those vehicle builders who want that continuity of quality, delivery and availability as standard.”

Chambrelan

Chambrelan UK enters Australia

Chambrelan Stocks OZ

It’s taken over a year of planning, stock speculation, ordering and manufacturing but finally the first consignment of Chambrelan’s heavy-duty slides and sliding systems are about to leave France for the Australian market.  Managing Director, Bruce Elliott, of Integrated and Industrial Equipment Solutions Ltd. based in Melbourne, who brokered the deal, discusses the impact this will have on vehicle manufacturers and industrial operations across Australia

“Chambrelan’s heavy duty sliding systems are being used by Defence, Emergency Services and Manufacturing industries, including SEM, Mills Tui and Multidrive.  Subsequently Chambrelan’s slides have built a reputation for being easy to install, easy to maintain and being available at the right price.”

The move by Chambrelan, to build an ongoing stock program in Australia, has been in response to the rising demand of new designs and new products currently being produced by Australian engineers and manufacturers.  “By providing a rapid response range of products for prototyping, we are able to cater to the immediate needs of the market.”

Indeed the decision will dramatically change the delivery times from up to 3 months via sea freight or more costly option of 2 weeks plus by air freight 2 / 3 days. Hopefully this decision investment will prove with existing customers in Australia and as well as reflecting on Chambrelan’s commitment to support it’s growing customer base.

“Australian businesses,” confirms Bruce, “will no doubt benefit from the decision.  Australian manufacturing, in terms of mining, industrial and vehicle markets, are made to operate in some of the harshest environments; by providing the strongest and most durable heavy duty sliding system available on the market, we are able to support them.

Integrated Emergency and Industrial Equipment solutions Ltd was established early 2009, but brings to the market over 12 years of Executive Management experience in the specialist manufacturing, spare parts and equipment markets, as well as a wealth of experience the Utility and fire vehicle markets.

Slide & Tilt - Chambrelan Spare Components

Slide & Tilt Parts and Spares – Now Available from Chambrelan

We have been manufacturing the key components for steel slide and tilt mechanisms sold in the UK for over twenty years and our recent launch in the UK marketplace means we are now well positioned to support fleet managers in providing spares for their side and tilt systems.  Indeed, as hard times seem to get harder and the portfolio of new vehicle builds dries up due to budgetary constraints, more and more fleet managers are going to feel the pressure in keeping their fleets on the road and here’s where we might be able to help.

Most Slide and Tilt systems use Chambrelan’s G53 carrier and E53 rail, and since these parts are only available from Chambrelan we are in an ideal position to help Fleet Managers maintain their vehicles with these parts.  It is also worth noting that there has been significant advancements to the G53, whereas originally the entire carrier used steel parts, the new G53 combines steel and high durable self lubricating nylon 6 making it stronger, lighter and quieter to operate.  In addition all our steel components come use our latest Zinc Plating, which gives added resistance against corrosion.

“Many brigades,” confirms Jeremy Binnington, Head of Chambrelan UK, “who still use the original steel slide and tilt systems may well need spares to ensure that existing vehicles stay fully operational to their original specifications, we’re delighted, that after only a year, Chambrelan can once again offer spares and parts from the UK.  In addition we can also machine modify the fixing hole configuration on the rail to suit specific vehicle layouts.”

Chambrelan’s linear slide systems have been designed and manufactured for heavy load capacities and hard wearing materials that can be easily installed and can now be easily maintained due to the spare components we supply.

“It’s another step forward for Chambrelan UK,” adds Jeremy.  “By offering spare components into the market we believe we can save brigades money, whilst helping Fleet Managers keep their vehicles running.  Since our strength lies in our manufacturing ability and our delivery turn-round, we can provide our products at short notice, which means fleet managers needn’t be concerned to much with stock issues.”

Chambrelan Teams Up With Pick Up Systems

Our extensive range of heavy duty slides and sliding systems means we work across different sectors and a huge number of applications including Defence, Fire, Rail, Offshore and utilities markets.  In this respect one of Chambrelan’s most interesting applications and long running relationships has been with Pick Up Systems, the UK’s leading commercial and pick up conversion specialists.  John Mcgauley, Managing Director of ‘Pick Up Systems’, discusses with Chambrelan’s marketing team how and why ‘Pick Up Systems’ have developed a working relationship with Chambrelan and how the two businesses work together in delivering an exceptional end product to the UK and international markets.

‘Pick Up Systems’ has built a business and reputation priding itself on converting pick up trucks for the international fire and utility markets.  Originally the company started fitting secure tool storage systems, but due to the quality of work began adapting their systems for the Fire and Rescue services.  By working with brigades and services it was felt that a rapid intervention vehicle not only needed storage space, but also front line fire fighting equipment, like water tanks and pumps.  Working with the Toyota Hilux chassis allows Pick up Systems to convert vehicles that carry more weight and are more reliable than traditional Landrovers, which have a reputation breaking down and being more expensive to upkeep.

We caught up with John Mcgauley at this year’s Harrogate Fire Show where he explained:  “Since our conversions are made to order, each vehicle is built around the needs of the end user and in this respect we are constantly being challenged to convert and develop new bodies to fit the Hilux chassis.”

Indeed the Pick Up System’s range includes conversions for the utilities, Fire, Recovery, Access, Ambulance and USAR (Urban Search and Rescue) markets.  In this respect John and his team are able to convert vehicles to carry up to 3.5 tons, including 600 litre water tanks and pumping equipment for RIV (Rapid Intervention Vehicles), or as a support vehicle, carrying stowage and heavy duty cutting equipment.  In terms of working with Chambrelan John realized that the ability to hold and store heavy equipment, as well as maximizing space and carrying capacity, was hugely important.  The only sliding system on the market that can offer this kind of quality, availability and delivery was Chambrelan.

“We’ve worked with Chambrelan for a good many years,” adds John, “and I believe their range of heavy duty slides are the smoothest most reliable slides on the market.  The other slides we tried before deciding on Chambrelan used to extend three quarters before needing extra force to fully withdraw.  Chambrelan’s slides have a 100% smooth operation, even at 1.7 metres, which our utility draws are expected to operate at.  In addition Chambrelan slides are easy to install and easy to maintain and because of these reasons we have been using Chambrelan slides across our entire range for the last 18 months.”

Using Chambrelan heavy duty sliding systems means that everything from hose reels, generators and heavy equipment like cutters and spreaders can be stowed safely and securely onto vehicles, providing long life and hard wearing functionality when needed.

Let’s Talk Maintenance

Let’s talk maintenance; the most frequently asked question we receive from clients new to our product range and even for that matter, old clients choosing new products.  In terms of quality of materials and manufacturing disciplines Chambrelan have invested across the board to bring to the market the strongest, most robust range of slides and linear rails.  We know our slides operate in the harshest of environments, across a range of different climates and conditions, but in terms of product selection we believe choosing the right slide from the outset is often the most important consideration a client will make.  Get it right and the slides will perform well with just the simplest maintenance regime, get it wrong and the slides life expectancy can be severely compromised.

Some of the most important considerations when choosing the right slide are as follows, Loading; Contamination of ball tracks, Dynamics to the application, Temperature and Method of Operation, each of which have their sub-questions our engineering sales team are able to ask.

In terms of Loading our first question is what’s the total mass? Where is the centre of gravity?  Is the application being overloaded, if so we can suggest a stronger slide and likewise if it’s being under-loaded we can suggest a more suitable slide.  We also try and determine ‘Dynamic Loading’, that shortens the lifespan of the slides and which can be caused by loading heavy kit into the application or alternatively shock punishment through performance in harsh environments and difficult terrain.  In this case our range of stronger sides, like our cold drawn steel slides, would be the preferred option.

When it comes to contamination of ball tracks, the main two issues to consider are exposure to ingress particulates and liquid contamination, for example road dirt, sand or water.  To protect against this our ball bearings come in two options, nickel-carbon steel and stainless steel ball bearings that mean extra-strength where needed.

Water temperature is also a main consideration; with our slides being used across a wide range of applications from defence, Fire, Emergency Services, Offshore, through to manufacturing and industry, across a number of different environments.  Design and multiple treatment options mean we have a slide for all conditions, including our new White Zinc Coating, our zinc nickel coating, gaseous nitro-carburising all of which offer increasing levels of protection.  In addition to these options we also offer 3 ranges of material steel, aluminium and stainless steel that cover standard applications through to those exposed to more corrosive environments.

Finally Chambrelan also takes into consideration the method of operation.  Are the slides to be automated or manually operated?  What’s the acceleration and speed of movement and what are the number of cycles the slides have to perform to?  In terms of manufacturing our slides and linear rails confirm to the js13 standard.  The slide is an assembly of profiles, each of them presenting tolerances of 1mm per metre in straightness and 1° per metres in twisting and the maximum speed of use for Chambrelan telescopic slides is 0.3m/s, but again our engineering sales team can help advice in all aspects of the selection process.
